2000 - PhD Biomedical Engineering, The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine

1994 - MSE Biomedical Engineering, Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering

1992 - B.Eng(Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Imperial College London

    Academic Background

Dr Constantinides completed his undergraduate studies at the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. His graduate and postgraduate studies were in Biomedical Engineering. He joined the faculty of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cyprus in September 2005 as an Assistant Professor and served as the Director of the ISO 9001 certified Laboratory of Physiology and Biomedical Imaging (LBI) “HIPPOCRATES.” He was trained at the EU Institutions and was a British Heart Foundation Fellow (Experimental Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Unit, Wellcome Trust of Human Genetics (WTHG), Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Oxford University), and a Marie Sklodowska Curie Fellow in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. Dr Constantinides’ specific research interests focus on the study of cardiac function, structural tissue modeling and characterization, radiology, multinuclear imaging, and functional and cellular tracking methods using MRI. The goal of his research efforts is the characterization of the cardiac function in small animals and humans aiming to develop techniques to promote the understanding of the mechanisms of human disease. He has taught in the areas of physiology, biomedical imaging, and mechatronics and automated systems.

    Publishing History

Dr Constantinides has published 90 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and conferences (total funding > 700k Euros) as well as editorials, monographs, book chapters, and books. He has been a member of the American Physiological Society (APS), International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM), European Society of Molecular Imaging (ESMI), American Heart Association, Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE), and serves/has served as a reviewer for numerous journals including (among others) ACS-AMI, the Journal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, Scientific Reports, PLOS ONE, European Radiology, NMR in Biomedicine, Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, Journal of Magnetic Resonance, Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and the Journal of Applied Physiology. Dr Constantinides serves/has served as a reviewer for the ISMRM, EMBS, and IEEE-SBI conferences, and for the EU’s TDP Cost-Action grants.

    Editing and Reviewing Experience

Dr Constantinides has edited manuscripts for students, post-doctoral fellows, and colleagues, in the fields of Physical Sciences/Engineering for 9 years, and Medicine for 3 years. He joined Edanz as Research Consultant in 2023.

    Writing Experience

Dr Constantinides has written a book on magnetic resonance imaging, four book chapters (on cardiac multinuclear MRI, regional cardiac function, murine cardiac hemodynamics, and the murine cardiac mechanical function using MRI, respectively) and a monograph
