    While completing her BSc Hons in Zoology on the visual ecology of dung beetles, Ms Kelly also did a course in ecology and conservation through Duke University, and a course in bat biology at the Ben Gurion University of the Negev. Her MSc research was on the thermoregulation of various South African bats and the evolutionary ecology of horseshoe bats in particular. After obtaining her masters, Ms Kelly worked as a scientific database curator for the European Bioinformatics Institute's protein signature database, InterPro. Her specific role was developing and applying a controlled vocabulary for proteins. Ms Kelly is presently a technical writer and editor for a software development company. She joined the Edanz Group as an editor in 2012.
