On 21 March 2017, Dr Andrew Jackson (Senior Editor at Edanz Group) was invited to give a one-day medical publishing workshop at a writing retreat in Pattaya, near Bangkok, Thailand. The audience consisted of more than 120 health care professionals and researchers from the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University.

Using slide presentations and class activities, Dr Jackson gave tips on effective English writing to apply for research grant applications, draft research manuscripts, submit papers to indexed international journals, communicate with journal peer reviewers, and promote research worldwide after publication. Special emphasis was placed on biomedical ethics, clinical trial reporting, and special considerations in clinical and patient data presentation, data archiving, and data sharing.

During the class discussions, Dr Jackson encouraged the researchers to use the free online tools available on the Edanz website--namely, the Journal Selector, elearning platform Author Academy, and a beta version of the guided writing platform Author Path.

From the workshop feedback received, 99% of participants said they found the content useful or very useful and would recommend an Edanz workshop to a colleague in the future.
