On 20-23 April 2016, Edanz delivered three one-day research communication workshops to early-career researchers at the Universidad de los Andes (UniAndes), Bogota, Colombia.

Dr Trevor Lane (Education Director and Senior Publishing Consultant) led the interactive workshops for engineering and physical sciences researchers. The topics covered journal selection, manuscript drafting and editing, presenting work at conferences, journal submission, revising according to peer reviewer comments, manuscript resubmission, and post-publication promotion of research to multiple audiences. The workshops consisted of seminars alternating with class activities/feedback.

The small size (10 participants) of each class allowed individual consultations to take place and for all attendees to share publishing experiences and to ask questions about their publishing concerns. All 30 attendees found the workshops useful or very useful, and the most highly ranked sections were tips on conference presentations and exercises in effective writing.

This set of Edanz seminars and activities was the first in a series of two requested by the graduate research office of UniAndes. The second set of research communication workshops will be given by Dr Daniel McGowan (Science Director and Head of Medical Writing) on 14-16 June 2016, to three groups of researchers in life, medical, and social sciences.
