イギリス在住。Beatson Institute(英国、グラスゴー)癌研究所で白血病等の進行に関連した血液生成幹細胞の成長に影響を及ぼす要因を調べるために様々な分子遺伝子技術を駆使、博士課程研究員を３年務める。後にグラスゴー大学の研究者として野外観察、血液サンプルからの放射性同位元素の分析、呼吸計での鳥の代謝モニタリングを通して海鳥のエネルギー要求性を分析。活発な科学研究の個人の経験と研究報告出版暦を持ち、総合内科、薬理学、遺伝学を含む広範囲にわたるテーマのアブストラクト、インデックス、科学論文の編集において多くの経験をもつ科学分野エディター。2007年までThomson Scientificのメディカル・インデックスのスペシャリストを務める。

For 3 years Dr Furness was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research, Glasgow where she used extensive molecular genetic techniques to examine the factors influencing the growth of haematopoietic stem cells, with relevance to the development of cancers such as leukaemia. Later Dr Furness was a researcher at Glasgow University where she analysed the energetic requirements of seabirds, using field observations, analysis of radioisotopes from blood samples and metabolic monitoring of birds in respirometers. Dr. Furness is a scientific editor with extensive experience of abstracting, indexing and editing scientific papers on a wide range of topics including general medicine, pharmacology and genetics, with personal experience of active scientific research and the publishing of research papers. From 1993-2007 Dr Furness was a Specialist Medical Indexer at Thomson Scientific. She began working with Edanz Editing in 2007.
