Since it was established in 1995, Edanz Editing has grown rapidly and now has the largest client base of any medical and science English editing company in Japan. What we do is known by many names: English editing, English polishing, language polishing, medical editing, science editing, academic language editing, copyediting, and rewriting. Essentially, though, what we do is to take bad or so-so English from non-native English authors and edit or rewrite it into English suitable for publication to an international audience. We do whatever is necessary to prepare the language in your manuscript for submission to the journal of your choice.

Edanz Editing has achieved its position as Japan’s premier English editing company by providing a service that really meets the needs of our author clients. The original Edanz service demystified the "art" of English editing for
Japanese authors and deflated the “Japan premium” prices then charged by other services.   In 1996 we introduced our standard 3 day service with a 1 day express service; the norm at the time was 7 and 3 days, respectively. The Edanz model is the now the standard copied by many other companies.

The original Edanz team has grown from 2 editors and 1 part-time office staff to 55 editors, 43 with PhDs, and 7 Japanese office staff. Our Fukuoka office provides a fully localized Japanese language service that offers speed and quality at reasonable fees. Our editing team is Japan’s most highly qualified and experienced. It is their scientific knowledge and writing skills that are applied to improve your manuscript.

In 2006 Edanz became the first international English editing company to officially register in China as a WFOE. In China, we are known as Liwen Bianji. As well as providing fully localized editing services to Chinese authors, Liwen Bianji provides English editing services to several Chinese journals that publish in English. We were the first company in China to provide a full journal editing service for Chinese academic publishers – essentially a virtual in-house English language editing team. As well, as part of our efforts to lift the quality of English writing in China, the Liwen Bianji staff in Beijing provide English editing seminars for Chinese journal editors and publishers. Within just one year we have become the leading English editing company in China.
